Yup, you read it right. This weekend saw a concerted effort to finish building the core FMG games engine completing the core functionality of the site. I’ve spent the last three or four weeks coding away, rewriting, trying to deal with the complex state engine under the surface, and finally completed this on Sunday.

I’ve been thinking about how to fund a board games site like FastMovingGames. Unfortunately, I’m just a hobby coder, so I don’t have a budget to help market the website and pay the various costs associated with the site so I have to be a little more inventive!

Over the last few weeks I’ve been building the core engine behind FMG’s main concept.
The engine is literally the workhorse of the website - working away behind the scenes and providing the main functionality that will (hopefully) make the site so appealing and useful to board gamers!

This week sees another milestone crossed off the list - having pretty much completed the games module. Well, that’s not entirely true, as there’s a few dependencies on the core games engine before I can finalize some of the pages, but the main meat of the games pages are complete.

How do you spell Carcassonne again? Is it one s and two n’s or two s’s and one n? Actually it’s two s’s and two n’s according to the Geek.
“So what?” I hear you ask - well, part of the final site builds on the current board games list to allow you to find a game. But what if you’re looking for Yinsh or Zooloretto - you don’t want to scroll through 4000+ board games before you get to the game you want to look at, so how about doing a search?

Design, visual style, and fashion trends are more fickle in the online world than they are in the real world. Technology and online tastes seem to change so fast that if you’re not committed about doing something soon, then by the time you get around to it there’ll probably be enough fashion changes that you’ll need to restart parts of the design somewhere along the way.
